Getting a Custom Suit in Khao Lak : A Complete Guide for German Travellers

Khao Lak has been a favourite with German holidaymakers for years. The beaches are quiet, the hotels are excellent, and the long winter holidays leave plenty of time to relax.

Many of our German guests also leave with something extra in their suitcase: a suit made just for them. If you’re thinking about it, this guide covers everything you need to know, from prices in euros to bringing your suit home to Germany.

Getting a Custom Suit in Khao Lak : A Complete Guide for German Travellers

Why Get a Suit Made in Khao Lak?

In Germany, a good made-to-measure suit can easily cost several times what you’d pay in Thailand, even for similar fabric. Here, you choose your own fabric, your own style and your own details, and the suit is cut to your measurements.

Khao Lak is also calmer than Bangkok or Phuket. There’s no rush and no pressure, and you can fit your appointments around beach days and island trips. If you’re comparing destinations, read our post on Bangkok vs Phuket vs Khao Lak.

Choose Fabric for German Weather, Not Thai Weather

This is the most common mistake we see. Guests fall in love with a light linen in the shop, then realise it’s too thin for a November evening in Munich or Hamburg.

Think about where and when you’ll actually wear the suit:

  • For office wear and autumn or winter in Germany: Choose a medium-weight wool or a wool-cashmere blend. Our 150s fabrics from Carlos Barbera and Roberto Fellini are popular choices.
  • For summer weddings and warm days: Lightweight wool or a wool-linen blend.
  • For an overcoat: If you need one for German winters, a tailor-made overcoat costs 8,000 to 14,000 THB.
  • For holiday wear: Linen shirts and trousers, perfect for Khao Lak and for summer at home.

Our guide on how to choose the right fabric for your custom suit explains the options in more detail.

How Much Time Do You Need?

Many German guests stay two or three weeks, which is plenty. For a shorter trip, plan like this:

  • Order on your first or second day.
  • A single suit takes about two to three days, including a fitting.
  • Larger orders need closer to a week.
  • Fittings at your hotel can be arranged on request.

Best Time to Visit

Most German travellers come between November and April, which is high season in Khao Lak. It’s the best weather, but it’s also our busiest time, especially around Christmas and New Year. If you’re coming in December, message us before you arrive so we can prepare fabric options for you.

Bringing Your Suit Home to Germany

In your luggage: Most guests simply pack their suit in their suitcase. Ask us to fold it properly or put it in a suit bag. The EU has a duty-free allowance for goods brought back from outside the EU in personal luggage, currently €430 per adult for air travellers. If your purchases are worth more than that, you may need to declare them at customs.

Shipped later: If you reorder from Germany, import VAT applies to parcels from outside the EU, and customs duty can apply to higher-value orders.

Customs rules can change, so check the latest information on the official German customs website, zoll.de, before you travel.

Reordering from Germany

Once we have your measurements, you don’t need to come back to Thailand to order again. Many returning guests send us a message, choose a new fabric from photos, and we make the suit using their saved measurements. Contact us on WhatsApp to arrange delivery to Germany.

A Few Practical Tips

  • Bring a photo of a suit style you like. It makes choosing much easier.
  • Bring the shoes you plan to wear with the suit, so the trouser length is right.
  • Ask for the full price upfront, including any extras.
  • Avoid tuk-tuk recommendations. Read our guide to avoiding tailoring scams in Thailand.
